I am from nowhere and everywhere

a face that cannot be placed,

yet it has been traced

everywhere

a country that is no home

that has seeped into consciousness

through blood, family

the place I was born

the place I have left

without memory

a country that knows blood –

the shedding of it

the emptying of it

the leaving of it

and I wish that skin could be shed

spilled like blood

drained of colour

but how I yearn

to be known
