a face, a body without a place

I am from nowhere and everywhere,

a face that cannot be placed,

yet it has been traced

everywhere

a country that is no home

but has seeped into consciousness

through blood, family -

the place I was born

the place I have left

without memory

a country that knows blood –

the shedding of it

the emptying of it

the leaving of it

and I wish that skin could be shed

spilled like blood

drained of colour,

but how I yearn

to be known
