Artwork: Yinka Shonibare, Butterfly Kid (boy) IV, 2019
British-Nigerian Yinka Shonibare’s mixed media installation, Butterfly Kid (boy) IV 2019, like many of his works, deals with issues of race, migration, post-colonialism, and globalisation. His artwork often features iconic Western art references with an ironic and playful twist. The Butterfly Kids series was inspired by environmental issues, and suggests notions of escape and endangerment, while also alluding to liberation, beauty, freedom and hope.
